The following is a list of news stories from 2014-2021 from the old version of our website.
Bombora Trail Day – CANCELLED
CANCELLED DUE TO BAD WEATHER. Bombora, at the bottom of winery hill, used to be one the fastest, most fun trails at Majura. However, the last 18 months of rain has seen much of original rock armoring in gullies wash away. Worn lips on the jumps (some have disappeared completely) and ruts mean this trail is more of a test of nerve than the smile inducing blast it used to be.
ATC Parks and Conservation Services have delivered 2 huge truck loads of rock. All we need is some volunteers to play Tetris with them.
Meet this Sunday (21st) at 0830 approximately halfway along the fire road between Bombora and the winery fence; a short walk from the winery gate. To help us manage the work and to reduce paperwork on the day we are asking that you register before hand. Numbers will be limited and we are likely to book out. Register in the link below.

Mt Majura and Mt Ainslie Nature Reserves
ACT Parks and Conservation Service have asked us to remind the mountain biking community that the construction of trails within Nature Reserves, such as Mt Majura and Mt Ainslie Nature Reserves, is not allowed and is a punishable offence under the Nature Conservation Act. Nature Reserves are rich ecosystems with many species of regional and national conservation significance; home to rare and threatened species of flora and fauna.
If you are interested in building new trails or jumps, then please get in touch with us. If you know someone who has been building within the reserves please have a polite word with them; they may not know they were in the wrong.
We are hoping to start Majura Pines trail maintenance days again very soon as soon as the forest has dried out a little more and restrictions permitting. Thank you.

New Trail Signs
Hopefully you have noticed the smart new trail signs at Majura. Our thanks to ACT Parks and Conservation Service who paid for the materials, our volunteers who did all the installation and local legend Alan Vogt of Frameskin and Dirtsurfer who donated his time and expert knowledge to prepare the designs and layouts. Please support the local businesses that support us.

Jump Trails Build and Christmas BBQ
We have been given permission to build 3 new progressive jumps trails near the base of winery hill. The great news is that Iconic Trails have donated 3 days of machinery time and have already bulked out 2 of the lines. All we need to do is rake and compact them.
Join us from 17:30 (or whenever you can get there) on Tuesday 8th December. Be sure to bring lights and hang around afterwards for our end of year BBQ. All welcome, even if you can only make it for the food. This is our chance to thank you, the volunteers.
Please RSVP by emailing majurapinestrails@gmail.com. Let us know if you have any dietary requirements.
The nearest place to park is the winery gate. From there it is a 600m walk or ride to the new trails, which are located above the last part of Mr Squiggle.
05th November 2020
Continued Wet Weather
Another week, another wet forecast. Majura Pines has a huge catchment (Mt Majura) and it doesn’t drain well. Before you go for a ride take a minute to consider the trail conditions. Riding in the mud can be fun but can also cause damage to the trails.
05th November 2020
Flow Trail Maintenance
ACT Parks and Conservation Service have funded the professional maintenance of the machine built flow trails Barry, Planet Claire and Pinot Grinio. As volunteers with hand tools there is only so much we can do. It will be great to get these popular trails back to their former glory. Iconic trails will be starting work in the coming weeks.
Please respect any trail closures for your own safety and the long term good of the trails.

Best Of Canberra Mountain Bike Report
If you would like to see more mountain bike trails in Canberra then please take a minute to show your support for the draft Canberra Mountain Bike Report. Majura Pines Trail Alliance are part of the reference group for this project and support the recommendations.
The top priority for investment is new trails from Stromlo to the Cotter and on to Blue Range. These are areas that can cater for gravity and wilderness riding currently not available in the ACT. If this is something that you want to see happen it is vitally important you let the ACT Government know. Please send an email to canberramtbexperience@act.gov.au
We have suggested some text below, but please feel to write your own views. If you don’t live in Canberra then they’d still love to hear from you; tourism is a vital part of this project. Do you visit Canberra to ride? Would you visit more if this plan was implemented?
Suggested email:
Mountain biking has never been so popular. The lucrative adventure tourism market continues to grow. Covid-19 has seen record bike sales and trail usage as many other recreational activities are not available. Significant investment in destinations all over Australia are eroding Canberra’s share of the mountain bike tourism market. Canberra, once the ‘mountain biking capital of Australia’, is being left behind. Therefore I fully support the draft Canberra Mountain Bike Report and I urge the ACT government to fund the recommendations as a priority.

Innabaanya Trail Day – Sunday 19th July
Who remembers when the berms on Innabaanya used to be this big? 5 years and many tens of thousands of wheels has worn them down. There also used to be an A line jump and, obviously, this trail has some major drainage issues.
Come and help on Sunday 19th July to get this great fun little track back to its best. We’ll meet at the northern end of the Innabaanya at 0830 and work until around lunchtime.
All tools, instruction and refreshments will be provided. Not only will we have the usual drinks and snacks from Hackett IGA Liquor Plus, beer from Capital Brewing Co and wine from Lark Hill Winery, but local coffee roaster, Maitland Street Roasters, will be providing all our caffeine requirements.
01st July 2020
New Green Loop
If you have conquered the beginner trails like The Flash and Crazy Crab Walk, why not try the new Green Loop.
From the Majura Road car park, ride through the underpass and then turn left on to Wombat. Keep following the green arrows around the loop. The last trail that you will ride is Cannery Row. After that, turn right and back through the underpass.
This loop has a couple of longer climbs and the trails are a little more challenging than the beginner trails. However it is a good introduction to the larger Majura Pines network.

Trail Day Saturday 13th June
We’ve found an area of hillside between Wonder Woman and Point Brake that is littered with rocks and we reckon there is room to squeeze two new gravity trails in. It will be steep though. If this sounds like your sort of thing, then come and give us a hand on Saturday 13th June. Our group sizes are still restricted so you MUST email majurapinestrails@gmail.com to reserve one of the limited places. Meet at 0830 at the top end of Point Brake. The most important thing to bring with you is GLOVES. Sturdy shoes and some water are also a good idea. We will provide the tools and refreshments will be from our sponsors Hackett IGA Plus Liquor and Capital Brewing Co.
Don’t forget to bring:
- plenty of water
- hat and sunscreen
- food
- gloves
- sturdy footwear
- eye protection
- your favourite trail tools – rakes, mattocks, shovels, hoes, etc

Trail Building Day
Majura Pines Trail Alliance will be taking advantage of the great weather and fantastic dirt to add a new flowing trail to the Majura Pines network this Sunday (17th May).
Obviously things will be a little different to make sure that everyone remains safe and healthy. Most importantly, we will be limiting the group size. If you are coming along you MUST email majurapinestrails@gmail.com to reserve one of the limited places.
We’ll be meeting at 0830 at the north end of Dew Drop Inn. The most important thing to bring with you is GLOVES. Sturdy shoes and some water are also a good idea. We will provide the tools and refreshments will be from our sponsors Hackett IGA Plus Liquor, Capital Brewing Co. and Lark Hill Winery.

Recent New Trails
Thanks to the hard efforts of our volunteers there are several new trails at Majura. Download the latest map from the Map page, or check out Trailforks for their exact locations. The new trails are:
Skinny Wrench – sponsored by Monkey Wrench Cycles in Hackett this super narrow bridge is off of Auto Alley and crosses the northern most gully on that trail. It can also be accessed off of Black Betty and is a short worthwhile diversion from Betty Blue.
Rode House – a faster more direct alternate option to the second half of Point Brake. There’s a big rock garden, some off camber trail and a super fast finish including 1 metre drop.
Point N Shoot – turning right off of Rode House the stand out feature on this double black diamond trail is a massive rock drop off with very sketchy landing; for only the best/bravest riders. After that there is a gully crossing followed by a tricky corner just before you rejoin Point Brake.
If you like these trails please keep an eye out for the next trail day when you can lend a hand. If digging isn’t your thing, remember that you can still donate via the button up there ^.
23rd February 2020
Evening Trail Build – Tue 3rd March
We will be running an evening trail build on Tuesday 3rd March. We’ll be building a new alternative second half to Point Brake which will be faster – and steeper – with lots of rocks and A line features. Located between Point Brake and Rocksanne, it will be somewhere between these two trails in style.
We’ll be at the bottom of Point Brake at 6pm. No worries if you’re a bit late, just grab a tool from besides the car and follow the red flags a short way up the new trail until you find us.
Definitely bring lights for the ride home so you can hang around and have a drink with us afterwards. Thanks to Capital Brewing Co. and Hackett IGA Plus Liquor for providing the refreshments.
Don’t forget to bring:
- plenty of water
- hat and sunscreen
- food
- gloves
- sturdy footwear
- eye protection
- your favourite trail tools – rakes, mattocks, shovels, hoes, etc

Canberra Nature Parks
We have been asked by ACT Parks and Conservation Services to remind riders that the construction and riding of mountain bike trails within Canberra Nature Parks, such as Mt Majura and Mt Ainslie Nature Reserves, is forbidden. You are permitted to ride formed roads (fire roads).
Canberra Nature Parks are rich ecosystems with many species of regional and national conservation significance and home to rare and threatened species.
If you would like to construct new trails, please get in touch with us. We are always looking for help building and maintaining the mountain bike trails, of all styles, within the Majura Pines, which is only just over the hill.

Evening Trail Build and Sun Downer
On Tuesday 19th November, come and help us put the finishing touches to the new top of winery hill and celebrate with a beer (or wine). We’re kicking off the summer evening build season with an easy one – just a bit tidying up and signage. Then we’ll crack back with a cold one from Capital Brewing Co. or Lark Hill Winery. A great a chance to come and meet a few of the MPTA Steering Committee and talk trails. All welcome.
We’ll be at the top of winery hill from 6pm onward, but come along whenever you can make it. You will probably need lights to cycle home afterwards.

Bring a gold coin if you’re feeling generous and throw it in MPTA donation bucket to support more great trails. Every customer who places an order with Mountain Bikes Direct between the 1st and 25th October will have the opportunity to cast their vote after they order (at the order confirmation page, after checkout). Vote for Majura Pines and our trail fund could be $600 better off – which means more tools and materials for us to build trails with.

Winery Hill Makeover
The trails on winery hill – the likes of Pinot Grinio and Bombora – are some of the most popular at Majura Pines. Since they were built nearly 5 years ago they’ve seen nearly 100,000 sets of wheels over them. Combined with the recent very dry weather and they are understandably in need of a refresh. Come and join us on Sunday 22nd September when we will not only be completing important maintenance but extending Pinot back up the hill to make it longer and adding some A line options, if time allows.
ACT Parks and Conservation Service have kindly provided us with a 1000 litre water cube so we can repack the berms. These trails will be closed for the morning whilst we work on them.
Meet at the top of winery hill at 0830 and we’ll work down the trail. The nearest place to park is the winery gate on Lime Kiln Rd, then it is a just a short walk/ride up the hill. Refreshments will be provided by our kind sponsors Hackett IGA Plus Liquor, Capital Brewing Co. and Lark Hill Winery.

Welcome Lark Hill Winery as Our Latest Sponsor
We are very pleased to announce that Lark Hill Winery have come on board as our latest sponsor. If beer isn’t your tipple, we will now be offering a glass of one of their wines after trail building. Additionally, they are donating prizes to our volunteer trail builder raffle – more details coming soon.
Lark Hill winemaker, Chris, got in touch with us after we opened Rocksanne, noting that they make a similarly named Pet Nat sparkling rose. Chris has been riding at Majura since the late 1990s and we are looking forward to hearing some of his stories of the ‘old’ Majura over a glass or two.
Don’t forget our next Majura Pines Trail Building Day on Sunday 2nd June. Details below.
13th May 2019

Don’t forget to bring:
- plenty of water
- hat and sunscreen

Meet at 0830 at the bottom of Rock Lobster / Touching Cloth so you’ll need to ride in. If you arrive late follow the line of flags up the hill. We’ll work until around 12 but give as much or little time as you can spare. All help is appreciated.

More Monkeying around with Bridges
We had an extremely productive evening on Tuesday re-building the Monkey Bridge, sponsored by Monkey Wrench Cycle Repairs, in its new location. Now we just need to connect some trails up to it. This should only take an hour or so.
Join us on Tuesday evening from 5.30 onward near Sleepy Hollow to add the newest trail to Majura Pines. We’ll supply all the tools. Your efforts will be rewarded with a beer from the Pact Beer Co.
Don’t forget to bring some bike lights as you might need them to ride home.
01st March 2019
Evening Build – Return of the Monkey Bridge
A popular feature at Majura that was lost to the harvesting was the Monkey Bridge on Bogs & Logs, that was sponsored by our great friends at Monkey Wrench Cycle Repairs.
We have found a new spot for it on Sleepy Hollow and will be reconstructing it there on Tuesday evening. Pop down after work and lend a hand. You will be rewarded with a cool beer from the Pact Beer Co.
We’ll be there from late afternoon, probably until dark. The nearest place to park is Hackett. Sleepy Hollow is the first trail in the trees north of the end of Planet Claire. The one with existing pallet bridge.
We will provide the tools. Don’t forget to bring bike lights for riding home!
22nd February 2019
Pump Track Open to Ride!
The new Majura Pines pump track is open to ride! It’s going to be a bit dry and dusty for while but will definitely speed up the more it is ridden. The track is located just to the south of the Majura Rd car park, just inside the beginner trails.
Our thanks to ACT Parks and Conservation Service for funding the build and providing the water needed and to Jindabyne Landscaping for the construction. Also a big shout out to Majura Pines Trail Alliance volunteer Michael Struik who has committed many hours to this project.
Have a great weekend!
01st February 2019
Pump Track Busy Bee
We have some great news! Jindabyne Landscaping have been engaged to build a new pump track at Majura to replace the one destroyed in the storms 2 years ago. We have found a great new location under tree cover closer to the beginner car park.To enable the Jindabyne Landscaping guys to maximise their time building, Majura Pines Trail Alliance have volunteered to clear the new site of branches and pine needles. Basically if we clean up first, we’ll get a bigger/better pump track.
Meet at 0800 (slightly earlier than usual; as it could be hot) at the beginner trails at the Majura Rd car park on Saturday 9th February. If we get a few people along it will only take us a couple of hours.
We will provide tools and refreshments, but if anyone has a leaf blower that they could bring along that would be a great help as we have a large area to clear.
Don’t forget to bring:
- plenty of water
- hat and sunscreen
- food
- gloves
- sturdy footwear
- eye protection
- your favourite trail tools – rakes, mattocks, shovels, hoes, etc

Weeding and Mulching with Friends of Mount Majura
Something a bit different from trail building – we are going to spend a morning helping out our neighbouring ParkCare group – the Friends of Mount Majura – at their weeding and mulching morning on Sunday 20th January. Come along and help pull out some pesky invasive weeds, spread some mulch out and, I daresay, learn lots about the local flora and fauna from their knowledgeable volunteers.
The work is taking place at the old sheep camp on the Mount Majura ridge from 0900 onwards. Let’s meet on our bikes at 0830 at the Mackenzie St gate in Hackett and all ride up together.
Bring: Sun protection, sturdy shoes, drinking water, and gloves if you have them.

Trails Update
A couple of small tweaks to the trails at the south end of Majura Pines. Pooklestein is now complete. We just need to tweak the end of Sleepy Hollow so that the trails join up.
The top of Whammy has also been moved away from the Equestrian Trail (boundary fire road). This trail now starts a short way down AJs Leap.

Barry Trail Maintenance This Saturday
Barry is one of the most popular trails at Majura – or it used to be. It has become badly rutted and in desperate need of maintenance. With good rainfall forecast for the end of this week, Majura Pines Trail Alliance are running a trail day this Saturday morning at 0830 to get Barry back up to speed.
We’ll meet at the bottom of the trail (near the Hackett entrance and the top of Planet Claire). If you arrive late, grab a tool and walk up the trail until you find us. Larry and Barry will be closed to riders whilst we undertake this work.
We have the tools, Hackett IGA Plus Liquor will provide refreshments and stick around afterwards to enjoy a cold beer from the good people at Pact Beer Co.
See you on Saturday!
Don’t forget to bring:
- plenty of water
- hat and sunscreen
- food
- gloves
- sturdy footwear
- eye protection
- your favourite trail tools – rakes, mattocks, shovels, hoes, etc

Bombora Native Tree Planting
ACT Parks and Conservation Services have given us 60 native trees to plant along the Bombora creek which will provide permanent shade and help stabilise the banks. They are even digging the holes for us! All we have to do is plant them. We are organising a busy bee on Wednesday (14th Nov) evening to plant the trees. Meet at the winery gate at 5:30pm, or whenever you can get along to help. 60 trees sound like a lot but that is only 10 each for 6 people, 5 each for 12 etc… Afterwards we’ll enjoy a refreshing cold beer from our sponsors PACT beer.
09th November 2018
Planet Claire Extension Open
The new Planet Claire extension is now open to ride. This week’s rain has helped but it’s still pretty soft in places so go easy on the brakes in the corners.
We have also opened the Shark Island return climb that snakes its way up the southern boundary back towards AJs Leap. The Pooklestein link to Sleepy Hollow and the other XC trails isn’t quite complete. At the moment it spits you out on the fire road, but it points you in the right direction. Hopefully we’ll get all these trails connecting up in the next few weeks.
As usual, latest maps from the link up there ^ and TrailForks is already up to date.
06th November 2018
MPTA spring BBQ & COGS Auto Alley Social Time Trial
Come along to a double whammy event of BBQ, bikes and berms on Saturday 17 November!
MPTA is holding a spring BBQ to thank the trail building volunteers. We will be hosting a BBQ from 12:30pm at the MPTA container (it’s on the main fire-road just down from the winery gate). Come along for a free sausage and soft drink. Bring a gold coin if you’re feeling generous and throw it in our donation bucket to support more great trails.
Canberra One Gear Society will be holding a social ride for its annual Auto Alley Individual Time Trial before the BBQ. Turn up at 11:00am at the MPTA container for a social ride see how fast you can ride Auto Alley.
02nd October 2018
Beginners and Winery Entrances Closed for National Capital Tour
On Saturday 13th October, Stage 1 & 2 of the National Capital Tour road cycling race will be starting at The Truffle Farm on Mount Majura Road. Road closures include Lime Kiln Road, Mount Majura Road and Majura Road (from its intersection with Lime Kiln Road to the NRMA Service Centre at Majura Park). Roads will be closed from 7am until about 4.30pm.
This will affect access to the Majura Pines. The best bet will be to park in Hackett either in the small car park on Mackenzie St or at Hackett shops. Alternatively follow signage to the National Capital Tour parking area at The Truffle Farm. The parking area is less than a kilometre from winery entrance on Lime Kiln Road.
A reminder that Majura Pines Trail Alliance are holding a trail day that day on Planet Claire. Come along and gives us a hand for an hour or two. More details below.
26th September 2018
Planet Claire Extension Trail Build
Come and help extend Planet Claire. We might have lost some trees but that just leaves room for more trail. Thanks to ACT Parks and Conservation Service an excavator has cleared a corridor and started to pile up dirt for berms. We need your help to shape, smooth and compact this in to a trail, as well as uncovering the connecting link trails in the compartment.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Due to the National Capital Tour road bike race the ONLY access to Majura that day is from the Hackett direction. This is the nearest place to park to where we are building anyway. Meet under the lone pine tree at the far South-East corner of Majura Pines. If you’re not sure then ride down Planet Claire and continue past the cones down the roughly cut trail; you’ll be able to see us for miles around anyway.
Snacks and refreshments will be provided courtesy of Hackett IGA Plus Liquor. Hang around afterwards to enjoy a cold, post-build beverage from Pact Beer Co.
See you on SATURDAY 13th!

A hugely successful trail build was held last Sunday. Lots of people to thank:
- Thank you to the 50(!) volunteers who helped out. A new record turn out for us
- Thank you to Alan Vogt and James Hall of the Kowalski Brothers Trailworks who had the hot and dusty job with the leaf blowers. They covered just about every trail at Majura!
- Thank you to the Ground Effect Cycle Clothing Slush Fund for the TrailScapes tools. They were everyone’s favourite tool
- Thank you to Hackett IGA Plus Liquor for the snacks and refreshments
- Thank you to Pact Beer Co for the post build beers which were well earned
We had a super productive morning building a replacement trail for Mata Hari and Mudhoney which still means that you can ride end to end in the forest in tree cover, and better links to Auto Alley. We breathed some new life in to Black Betty, a great little trail that never saw the wheels that it deserved. James and Al cleared the needles and twigs of all the other trails. What with last week’s rain, I don’t think the trails have ever looked so good. We also sorted out post-harvesting issues on Mr Squiggle and Bombora and fixed long term drainage issues on these trails and Pinot Grinio.
We’ll get the maps and sign posts updated with details of the new trail this week.

Trails Open!
The long wait is over and Majura is finally open again. The post harvesting trail news is pretty good. More details below.
The following trails were harvested around. They require a bit more raking, but are ok to ride now:
- lower Planet Claire
- Love Shack from end of Planet Claire out to Lincoln
- Mr Squiggle
- Bombora
The following trails have been lost, and will need replacing. For now you will have to ride around on fire roads. We’ll try and get some arrows up:
- Shark Island
- Beyond the Black Stump
- the rest of Love Shack
- Mata Hari
- Mudhoney
- Bogs and Logs
All other trails were not effected. However they haven’t been ridden for 2 months so are likely to have pine needles and branches on them. Ride with care, and please stop to move small branches out the way. If you come across any trees or branches that are too big for you to move, let us know.
You can download the latest trail map from the Maps page on this site.
Don’t forget that Majura Pines Trail Alliance are holding a trail day this Sunday to further clean up the effected trails and start to build replacements to those that have been lost.

Post Harvesting Busy Bee
The harvesting work at Majura Pines is nearly finished. The trails will be open again in the next couple of weeks. Majura Pines Trail Alliance will be holding a Busy Bee to clean up the trails that have been preserved and start to construct new alternatives to the couple that have been lost on Sunday September 9th. Meet at 0830 at our container, which is now very easy to find and only a short ride/walk along the main fire road from the winery gate.
We’ll be swinging our fantastic new tools courtesy of the Ground Effect Cycle Clothing Slush Fund. Snacks and refreshments will be provided courtesy of Hackett IGA Plus Liquor. And hang around afterwards to enjoy a post-build beverage from Pact Beer Co.
Don’t forget to bring:
- plenty of water
- hat and sunscreen
- food
- gloves
- sturdy footwear
- eye protection
- your favourite trail tools – rakes, mattocks, shovels, hoes, etc

New Tools from Ground Effect
A huge thanks to Ground Effect Cycle Clothing who, through their Slush Fund, have allowed us to purchase 9 of the superb TrailScapes Rake N Bake tools. Majura Pines Trail Alliance love our trails to be hand built, and there are no better hand tools. With the harvesting work nearing completion these tools are going to get a real work out repairing and replacing the lost trails.
As well as being great guys, Ground Effect also make some of the best cycling gear going around.

Harvesting Update
A reminder that the Majura Pines remain closed at all times whilst the ongoing harvesting work takes place. This is for your own safety.
Unfortunately the harvesting work has been going slower than anticipated and we are still several weeks away from re-opening the forest.

PACT Beer Co Sponsoring Trail Days
A huge shout out to Pact Beer Co who have partnered with us as trail day beer sponsor for Majura Pines Trail Alliance. Once the current harvesting is finished there will be lots of building to get the trails back in shape, so watch out for volunteer days and be rewarded with cool fresh tasty beer from PACT Beer Co.
07th June 2018
Harvesting Work Delayed Until 18th June
Good news! The trees scheduled to be harvested at Majura have had a stay of execution….for a week.
Due to schedule issues the start of the harvesting has been delayed until Monday 18th June. This does remain that the trails are open to ride for another week at a time when the weather is good and the light rain we have had means they are in great condition.

18th May 2018
Majura Pines CLOSED for Harvesting 12th June Onwards
The Majura Pines trails will be closed from Tuesday 12th June for up to 8 weeks whilst scheduled harvesting operations take place. Heavy machinery will be operating in the forest. For your own safety, please do not ride any trails at Majura at any time during this period.
The compartments being cleared this year are those that have seen severe storm damage in the past. The significant trails in these areas are being preserved. Any other trails that are lost will be rebuilt by the Majura Pines Trail Alliance. Keep an eye out for volunteer trails days when the harvesting work is complete

Busy Bee This Sunday 20th May
Not a full trail build day. But there are a number of smaller tasks that need to be undertaken before some scheduled harvesting work that will be taking place, most likely in June. These jobs include removing and storing the Monkey Bridge on Bogs & Logs, taking out a couple of sign posts and tidying up the container.
With your help we should be finished within a couple of hours leaving the rest of the day to go for a ride. Snacks and refreshments will be provided courtesy of Hackett IGA Plus Liquor as usual. No need to bring any tools. Just yourselves and some sturdy foot wear should be enough.
Meet at the container on Monterey Rd near Mata Hari at 0830. If you’re late we shouldn’t be too far away.
16th April 2018
PS2 – New Trail Complete
Absolutely massive effort from the 22 volunteers who gave up their Sunday morning today to complete the newest addition to the Majura Pines trail network. PS2 is 450m of freshly cut singletrack that provides an alternative to the upper section of Pitt St. After a tiny bit of climbing there is a shallow creek crossing and then a fast flowy descent that swoops down the hill to a second, much larger, creek crossing before rejoining Pitt St just above the existing gully rides.
The trail is finished and open to ride. Obviously it will be a bit soft and slow at first but will only get better as it firms. Signs and online map will be updated this week. Huge thanks for everyone who helped out.
05th April 2018
Pitt St Build Day
Come and lend a hand at the first full trail build of 2018 at the Majura Pines. We’ll be kicking off this year by breathing some new life in to an old favourite – Pitt St. Rest assured all the good bits will be staying but we have a great alternate alignment for the top half.
Meet at the top of Pitt St, just down from the main fire road, at 0830 on Sunday 15th April. We will be finished by around 1230; but give as much or little time as you can. The nearest place to park is the beginners area or the winery gate.
Snacks and refreshments will be provided courtesy of Hackett IGA Plus Liquor as usual.
Don’t forget to bring:
- plenty of water
- hat and sunscreen
- food
- gloves
- sturdy footwear
- eye protection
- your favourite trail tools – rakes, mattocks, shovels, hoes, etc
06th February 2018
Space Elevator open
Majura Pines Trail Alliance are stoked to announce the new Space Elevator is now complete and open to ride. The trail has been built as a challenging return climb near the recently opened Touching Cloth, and the Downhill Trail allowing riders to tackle a black diamond technical XC climb to get the top of the ridge. This trail also makes a fun and tight descent with a few interesting features so keep an eye out for other riders.
You’ll find two entrances to the start of the climb on the fireroad near the bottom of Touching Cloth, and the other near the Southern most start of Auto Alley. If you’re coming from the top, you can take the link trail across from Larry. Download the latest trail map from the Map tab above.
And don’t forget if you can’t make it to trail build days and still want to contribute you can donate to our trail fund via the paypal button over there ->

Meet the Majura Trail Builders
Majura Pines Trail Alliance are guided by a small volunteer steering committee. Besides planning and organising trail build and maintenance days we also liaise with the Majura Pines land managers and other interested parties such as local clubs, events organisers and sponsors.
We will be holding our not-so-annual meeting on Monday 19th February at 7.30pm at our shipping container in the forest. This is your chance to find out more about what we do, and what exciting ideas we have for 2018 and beyond, give us your feedback and share ideas and, if you wish, step up to help us. We are always looking for new volunteers whether it be designing new trail, swinging a shovel, or the other important role of emailing government people and other groups on the advocacy side of things.
A group of us will be riding over from Hackett. We will meet at the Hackett shops at 6.30pm and we’ll take in a few trails on the way. You will need lights to ride home. If coming directly to the container at 7.30pm, the nearest place to park is the winery gate on Lime Kiln Rd and then it is a short walk south on the main fire road (Monterey Rd).
Beers, soft drinks and snacks will be provided. We hope to see you there.
24th January 2018
Evening Trail Build
A couple of us are going to head up on Thursday night (25th) and finish the new climb / technical XC descent that we have been working on. If anyone is around and has an hour or so to spare please come and lend a hand. We’ll park at the bottom of the trail at 1830 (just to the north of the end of Rock Lobster and Touching Cloth). You’ll need to ride in and most likely will require lights to ride home again afterwards. All tools will be provided. There is a strong chance that we’ll be heading to Wilburs afterwards to re-hydrate.
Don’t forget to bring:
- plenty of water
- hat and sunscreen
- food
- gloves
- sturdy footwear
- eye protection
- your favourite trail tools – rakes, mattocks, shovels, hoes, etc
02nd January 2018
What’s Your New Year’s Resolution?
2017 was a very successful year for the Majura Pines. Over 25,000 riders enjoyed the trails which all stayed open and in great condition all year, thanks in part to better weather than 2016 but also the 400 hours of maintenance and trail building donated by 59 volunteers. Thank you everyone who attended a trail day.
Several new trails were opened with an emphasis on returning Majura to its roots (and rocks) with some great technical descents. Majura Pines Trail Alliance would again like to thank Makin Trax Australia for their work on Touching Cloth.
On the events side, Majura hosted club XC races, dirt crits, the very successful National 24 Hour championships and also saw the return of proper Downhill racing with 3 CORC Down Hill events.
Behind the scenes Majura Pines Trail Alliance negotiated a harvesting schedule that everyone is happy with. There will be some logging in 2018 but only to small areas that are badly damaged and potentially dangerous. We see this an opportunity to rebuild the effected trails better than they were before.
We also have lots of ideas for more new trails and improvements. We will be holding our Not-So-Annual General Meeting soon and would love to hear your ideas too.
So if you only have one New Year’s Resolution in 2018 then try and make it along to at least one of our trails days. Without your help none of the above can happen. Not everyone is able to help build, so we have set up a trail fund so you can contribute towards the tools, materials and refreshments we use. Please see the PayPal donate button over there ->
Have a great 2018 on the trails!

Planet Claire Maintenance Day
Planet Claire is one of the most popular trails at Majura Pines. Since it was opened 2.5 years ago it has been ridden over 55,000 times. However it is in desperate need of maintenance. The rain we have had this week means that the soil is in perfect condition to repack those berms. Come and lend a hand getting this trail back to its former glory.
We will meet at the top of Planet Claire, near to the Hackett entrance at 0830 on Sunday 10th December. We will be finished by around 1230; but give as much or little time as you can. The nearest place to park is Mackenzie St in Hackett and then it is a short ride/walk up Blue Metal Rd.
Snacks and refreshments will be provided courtesy of Hackett IGA Plus Liquor as usual.
Don’t forget to bring:
- plenty of water
- hat and sunscreen
- food
- gloves
- sturdy footwear
- eye protection
- your favourite trail tools – rakes, mattocks, shovels, hoes, etc

Touching Cloth OPEN
The newest trail at Majura Pines, Touching Cloth, it open to ride. This trail is a technical descent that utilises some the oldest, rockiest downhill trails at Majura before rewarding you with a brand-new fast and fun finish. Some sections of the trail are still quite soft but are good to ride on. The trail will only get faster as it firms up.
Our thanks to the following people who made this new trail possible: The original DH trail builders at Majura; people like Bill Dengate, Makin Trax who kindly donated two days of their time and the volunteers who helped out at our trail day last month.
The easiest way to find Touching Cloth is to take the new link track from the top of Point Brake that crosses Rock Lobster. Head along the fire road for about 50m and then Touching Cloth starts on your right. Download the latest trail map from our website or the free phone app, TrailForks.
Remember, if you ride at Majura and aren’t able to help at trail days, you can do your bit by making a contribution to our trail fund via the pay pal link on the right of this page.

2017 Logging Schedule
Over recent weeks MPTA has been in consultation with ACT Parks, Forestry and ACT Government Ministers regarding the ongoing logging schedule for Majura Pines. Majura Pines is a working pine forest nearing the end of its cycle, and due to the safety issue of falling trees experienced last winter, selected forestry operation are going to occur later this year.
Logging operations are scheduled to start in October 2017 in the compartment containing Bogs & Logs and Mudhoney as well as the southern most area containing Love Shack, Shark Island and the lower Planet Claire. These two compartments were the worst affected in the extreme weather last year with a large number of trees continually falling and are most in need of urgent renewal. A sympathetic harvesting method will be utilised to conserve existing trails as much as possible. Further logging operations will occur in stages in 2022 and 2027 to allow for sufficient regrowth in the cleared compartments between operations.
MPTA are very pleased with the outcome of discussions and look forward to working with the land managers in all future planning.
Special thanks to ACT Parks and Conservation Service, Mick Gentleman MLA, Shane Rattenbury MLA for your continued support of this amazing recreation area and tourist destination.

Touching Cloth Trail Build
Majura Pines Trail Alliance are building our most challenging trail yet. Incorporating some steep and rocky old Majura singletrack, riders will be rewarded with a fun new lower section, designed by Makin Trax. ‘Touching Cloth’ could become the best trail at Majura.
Lots of help is needed to smooth and compact the new trail. If you like trails that go down – and who doesn’t? – then come and lend a hand for a few hours. Meet at the bottom of Rock Lobster at 0830 on Sunday 18th June. The nearest place to park is the Mackenzie St car park in Hackett. You will need to ride in from one of the car parks. You’ll want your bike to try the trail afterwards anyway.
Snacks and refreshments will be provided courtesy of Hackett IGA Plus Liquor.
Don’t forget to bring:
- plenty of water
- hat and sunscreen
- food
- gloves
- sturdy footwear
- eye protection
- your favourite trail tools – rakes, mattocks, shovels, hoes, etc

Trail Spring Clean (in Autumn)
Majura Pines Trail Alliance will be holding a general trail maintenance day this Sunday, 21st, from 0830 to 1200. The goal is to clear all the drains of fallen pine needles, drag fallen branches out of creeks etc and generally make the trails ready for the wetter weather over winter. A little bit of work now will go a long way. Significant rain is forecast for Friday and Saturday (but dry on Sunday) so we should have no problem finding the puddles that need clearing. This will not be hard digging – more of a walk of the trails with rake in hand.
Meet at 0830 at the MPTA storage container on the main fireroad (Monterey Rd) about 200 metres south of the Mudhoney – Mr Squiggle junction. The closest place to park is the winery gate (near end of Bombora). Tools and refreshments will be provided by Hackett IGA Plus Liquor. We will work until around midday.
Don’t forget to bring:
- plenty of water
- hat and sunscreen
- food
- gloves
- sturdy footwear
- eye protection
- your favourite trail tools – rakes, mattocks, shovels, hoes, etc

Point Brake Open
Thanks to the hard work of our volunteers, the latest trail at Majura Pines is finished, signposted and open to ride! Point Brake is a steep, fast trail that crosses a gully 12 times. It’s a little bit old school but also a lot of fun. The easiest way to find it is to take the right fork off of Rock Lobster. Alternatively have a go at climbing another recent addition Wonder Woman, which is a two way trail that links Boy Wonder to the start of Point Brake.
These trails are on the updated map which is free to download from our website. And don’t forget if you would like to support Majura Pines Trail Alliance but are not able to make it to trail days, there is a Paypal Donate on the right hand side of this page.

Monkey Bridge
A huge thank you to Monkey Wrench Cycles for purchasing the timber that has allowed us to construct the 20m long Monkey Bridge around the dam on Bogs and Logs. As well as being a cool feature it will mean this trail stays drier in the winter.
Monkey Wrench Cycles is a bicycle service and repair centre and shop located at the Hackett shops. Please support the local businesses that support our trails.

Trails Damaged After Wind Storm
Majura Pines has come off better than hoped after Friday’s storm. The only trails effected are:
- Bogs and Logs – 2 big piles of trees that are unpassable so we have closed this trail
- Mr Squiggle – 1 tree at the beginning and 1 in the middle
- Mudhoney – Two trees together that can be walked around
If you know of any other trees that we have missed please let us know.

HIGH WINDS FELLING MORE TREES AT MAJURA
We have had a report of a tree falling near the bottom of Planet Claire – whilst two riders were there.
WE STRONGLY ADVISE THAT YOU DO NOT RIDE AT MAJURA TODAY (Friday 19th). It is highly likely that more trees will fall.
If you are riding at the weekend look out for newly fallen trees and please let us know their location so we can arrange for them to be cleared.

Majura Pines CLOSED
The Majura Pines trails have been closed following the recent bad weather. Please observe the closure as it is for your own safety, will allow chainsaw operators to clear the damage and for the good of the very wet trails. The official statement from ACT Government:
Majura Pines temporarily closed for safety. The ACT Government wishes to advise the public that the Majura Pines recreation area, including the mountain bike trails, is closed due to recent inclement weather. There are a number of fallen or hanging trees in the area. The trails are also saturated so the closure will reduce further damage to the network. The ACT Government is currently working to clear fallen trees. Staff will be on site this week to assess trees and remove them if required. The closure will be in place until Wednesday 3 August 2016. Updates will be provided if the closure can be lifted earlier. For more information contact Access Canberra on 13 22 81 or visit www.environment.act.gov.au

Latest Trails Update
Important trail update: We visited this morning to inspect more trails and discuss works with the Rangers from PCS who are in the process of clearing trees. However due to the amount of fallen and leaning trees we have closed two entire compartments. Firstly the lower compartment in the most South section containing Lower Planet Clare and Love Shack, and secondly the area containing Bogs and Logs, Mata Hari and Mudhoney. Please observe all trail closures for your own safety until the rangers and MPTA have completed the work.
Further update: A big thanks to the efforts from the rangers from ACT Government Parks and Conservation Services who have cleared trees for us on Pinot Grinio, Bombora, Smitten Kitten, Boy Wonder and AJs Leap. All diversions have been removed and these trails are good to ride. Also the hard working volunteers from MPTA just got back from an inspection of Auto Alley and are happy to report the entire section is free from trees and in great condition.
A reminder though that Rock Lobster and the two entire compartments where the largest amount of trees fell are still closed for your safety.

Many Fallen Trees at Majura
Warning to riders heading to Majura Pines this weekend. After the crazy weather we had on Wednesday night there are many trees down. Please exercise caution and observe any trail closures.
With so many trees down it might be best to list the trails that you can ride. Our best suggestion for a ride is Larry, Barry and Planet Clare (not the lower section) then take the fire road to the other end and head up Mr Squiggle, Batcave and down Pinot Ginio (with a diversion around a tree), and Bombora (again with an avoidable tree near the end). Some North South XC link trails are open, but most have way too many trees to even try to get around and avoid. It’s just not worth – seriously!
ACT Parks and Conservation Services are aware of the problems and will be assessing the damage in the morning.

Trail Maintenance Day including new boardwalk
There will be a Majura Pines Trail Alliance trail maintenance day this Sunday, 3rd July. Our biggest priority will be to install a new boardwalk feature around the small dam on Bogs & Logs. The timber for this has been kindly supplied by Monkey Wrench Cycles. Our thanks to them for their continued support of Majura Pines.
If you have a cordless drill please bring it along with all of your charged up batteries.
Meet at the MPTA storage container on the main fireroad (Monterey Rd) about 200 metres south of the Mudhoneys – Mr Squiggle junctionat 08:30. The closest place to park is the winery gate (near end of Bombora). If you are late come and find us at the dam at the southern end of Bogs and Logs. Hot and cold drinks and snacks will be provided. We will work until around midday or until the boardwalk is finished!
Don’t forget to bring:
- plenty of water
- hat and sunscreen
- food
- gloves
- sturdy footwear
- eye protection
- your favourite trail tools – rakes, mattocks, shovels, hoes, etc

Thanks to the 8 volunteers who braved mud this morning to complete some much needed trail maintenance at Majura Pines. Work done this morning included fixing drainage on Lincoln, a new updated rock bridge near the Tiki Bar on Love Shack, and some major drainage works on Sleepy Hollow. Mount Majura Nature Reserve Closed At Night
As of today Mount Majura Nature Reserve will be closed between the hours of 5pm and 7am everyday until 1st August because of the ACT government 2016 kangaroo control program. The Majura Pines will not be accessible from Hackett/Ainslie side between these hours. The mountain bike trails within the Majura Pines will stay open but you will only be able access them from the Majura Parkway side.
From TAMS: Today the conservation cull of Eastern Grey kangaroos is beginning in a number of reserves until Monday 1st August 2016, including Mount Majura Nature Reserve. It will be important for riders who travel to Majura Pines via Majura Nature Reserve to be very aware of the reserve closure hours (5pm 7am) and the fines which apply under the Nature Conservation Act 2014 for entering closed reserves; this includes Blue Metal Road fire trail which leads to the pines from Mackenzie St gate in Hackett.

Barry
Thanks to the rider/s who pulled down the bunting on Barry yesterday this trail was re-opened sooner than intended. It is hoped that the heavy weekend traffic whilst the berms had still to set won’t have any long term detrimental effects.

New Winery Trails
The recently completed new trails on winery hill have now been sign posted and added to the Majura Pines Trail Alliance maps. To download the latest trail map check out the maps page on our website.
Some more information about the new trails:
Rock Block is a tough two way trail. As a climb it is a technical lung buster. As a descent you will have to work hard at first, especially around the rocky knob in the NE, before a series of challenging corners gradually open out to some faster trail. Watch out for the epic tree roll over near the bottom. Rock Block is also the name of a wine from the Mount Majura Vineyard, which this trail offers great views of.
Magic Roundabout is an extension of an existing trail all the way to the end of Bombora. It offers a more direct, but all singletrack, link to winery hill for those parking at the winery gate, who have just finished Bomobora and want to go straight back up for more fun or riders emerging from the northern end of Bogs and Logs.
Please take are accessing the bottom of Rock Block where the trail crosses/joins Bombora.

Pinot Grinio OPEN
Pinot Grinio is open again after firming up a bit after the limited rain we had at the weekend. Please ride it with care as the trail surface beds in.
Some of the corners on Barry remain very soft so it is going to stay closed for a while longer; the forecast looks promising for more rain for this weekend.
28th April 2016
Pinot Grinio and Barry Closed this Weekend
Following on from Jindabyne Landscaping’s maintenance, Pinot Grinio and Barry will be closed this weekend to allow the very dry, loose trails to consolidate. Please respect these closures for the long term good of the trails. Planet Claire will remain open but please ride it with care. Hopefully we will get the forecast rain.

Bush Fire Advice
Please be careful when cycling during the hot summer months. Bushfires occur every year in Australia. Safe mountain biking means planning for bushfire emergencies before leaving home.
Avoid riding in the bush on days of severe, extreme or catastrophic fire danger or if there is smoke or fire in the area. You can check the ACT Fire Danger Ratings on the ACT Emergency Agency Services website.
In the event that you are caught in a bushfire:
- Stay on the Trail. Emergency Services may conduct an aerial search of the area to locate any mountain bikers. Make yourself visible to low-flying aircraft flying overhead
- Do not try to out-ride the fire. Cycle away from the fire following the trail towards the nearest well-used road or seek refuge from the fire. Where appropriate, preference should be given to moving downhill and/or upwind away from the fire
- Look for an area where you can shelter from radiant heat, or where there is less vegetation to burn as the fire will be less intense here. Seek shelter in nearby buildings or a vehicle, or a large body of water such as a farm dam, stream or lake
- If these options aren’t available, try to find an open space such as a previously burnt area or rocky ground. Clear as much fuel away from you as possible and shelter from radiant heat behind your backpack or a fallen log, or lie face-down under a bank, rock, loose earth, or in a hollow or rut. Stay low to the ground for fresh air and cover up exposed skin to protect yourself from radiant heat. Cover your mouth and nose with a wet cloth if possible
- Call for help. The emergency number in Australia is Triple Zero (000), however if you do not have reception with your own carrier, you can dial ‘112’ and your call will be carried by any available GSM network

Gas Pipeline Works
Work has commenced on a gas pipeline from Hackett to the AFP training centre near Majura Road. There will be some disruption to access to Majura Pines from the Hackett side although it is expected to be limited. Work will commence from the Majura Rd side and run up the southern boundary of the Pines and then along along Blue Metal Rd to Hackett. Access to the top of AJs Leap and possibly through the top gate will be disrupted temporarily once they reach that section of the forest as they cross AJs Leap and exit the forest near the top gate. We will let you know when this is likely to occur. Temporary fencing and warning lights will be placed around the construction area but please keep your distance and avoid any holes. The project is expected to be completed in 6 to 8 weeks. If you have any problems or questions please let us know.

Thanks to everyone who attended yesterday’s build day on Auto Alley. Some great new trail with plenty of (very!) steep pinches and awesome rock features were built. Any fears that Auto Alley would be dumbed down can be discarded. Whilst the trail is open to ride, not all of the new sections link up or will make sense yet.
Thanks to Michael Struik for the photo.

Trails Are Now Signed

The trails are Makura Pines now have sign posts identifying them by name. The signs also help you get around the forest (to underpass, Hackett exit) and show the grade of the trail (Green Circle – easy, Blue Square – indermediate, Black Diamon – advanced). There are also No Entry signs at the end of the one way trails.

Main XC Loop Completed

We had an awesome trail day on Sunday. Thanks to everyone who helped out yesterday and at trail days over the last few months. As a group we have now competed the main XC loop through the Pines, which has been a huge achievement in a short period of time and has been well received if the amount of bike traffic through the Pines is any thing to go by.
Yesterday, we completed the Love Shack link in the southernmost compartment that links the bottom of the new DH trail (Planet Claire) to the XC loop and the climb back up to the gate at the top of forest. We also moved the bottom entrance of the southern climb (AJ’s Leap) about 50 metres south on the main fire road to link with the top of Love Shack.
Our next trail day is scheduled for Sunday 29 March. However, we’ve done enough trail building lately and instead we thought we should have a ride day instead to enjoy the trails we’ve built, followed by a BBQ and some drinks afterward. We’ll confirm details later this week.

Winery Hill Open

Jindabyne Landscaping have opened the trails on winery hill and the creek run below them – for now anyway. Beware tha these trails are very very soft and require a lot of rain for them to bed in.

Smitten Kitten Complete

A huge thank you to the 30 volunteers who dug, scraped, dragged and lifted on Sunday at the Majura Pines build day. With your help we completed the new Smitten Kitten trail that that winds its way up the hill parallel to the northern Innabaanya boundary completely separate from the existing Pitt St trail. Check out the attached map.
We have now completed the core of the central XC loop with just the compartments at the far north and south to be done before Easter. The next build day will be on Sunday 1st March. More details closer to the time.

Big Thanks to CORC and Mount Majura Vineyard

Great work from the 20 volunteers who today braved the dust and heat to cut in more great singletrack at the Majura Pines. The new swoopy return trail parallel to Pitt St is now approximately half done. Hopefully we will be able to finish it next week.
Everyone enjoyed cold drinks, beers and a BBQ supplied by our friends at CORC – Canberra Off Road Cyclists and Mount Majura Vineyard. Our huge thanks to them for their support.

Massive Turn Out at First Trail Build of 2015

A huge thanks to the 40 (!) volunteers that came out this morning to lend a hand at the Maujra Pines trail build. Under the expert watchful eye of Craig and Paul from Jindabyne Landscaping we got heaps of sweet sweet singletrack cut in with berms, jumps, A & B lines, flow and, of course, good drainage.
There are a few more photos here on the MPTA facebook page.
There is still lots and lots of work to be done to get Majura back to its former glory. The next trail build will be on Sunday 8th February. More details to follow.

Volunteer Trail Day and Trail Building Clinic

The next volunteer trail building day will Sunday 1 February from 8.30 am to 1 pm. Craig Stonestreet from Jindabyne Landscaping will be joining us to conduct a trail building clinic throughout the morning as we build. So an opportunity not to be missed to learn all the tricks of the trade.
Meet at the Jindabyne Landscaping compound on the side fireroad south of the Innabaanya compartment, just north of Lincoln (between Compartments I and J on the attached map). Meet there at 8.30 am or 8.15 am at the MacKenzie St gate for a lift into the forest.
Don’t forget to bring:
- plenty of water
- hat and sunscreen
- food
- gloves
- sturdy footwear
- eye protection
- your favourite trail tools – rakes, mattocks, shovels, hoes, etc
The following trail day will then be held on Sunday 8 February.

Trail Construction Has Commenced

Jindabybe Landscaping have commenced trail construction at Majura Pines. They will be concentrating on the DH trails on the hill at the southern end of the Pines (near the Hackett entrance) and the trails on Winery Hill. Trails and compartments will be closed off where they’re working and will be progressively re-opened as they complete each section. Please respect the barriers and stay out of the construction areas.
Boy Wonder will remain open during the construction and much of the forest will remain open to ride throughout. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of March.
You can read the official Press Release about the work at Majura commencing here.

Current Majura Trails

The map above (click to enlarge) shows the current trails in existence at Majura Pines. Some of these trails are the existing trails that have been uncovered, others have been recently built by trail fairies not connected to Majura Pines Trail Alliance. It is likely that PCS will close any trails that don’t fit in to their recently commissioned master plan. MPTA would like to work with the trail fairies to incorporate their trails in to the overall plan. Please contact us at majurapinestrails@gmail.com

First Volunteer Build Days Held

The first two MPTA build days saw around 15 eager volunteers at each day keen to lend a hand and bring the Majura trails back to their former glory. Work was undertaken on Boy Wonder, a linking trail in the next compartment below and the upper trail across the Innabaanya compartment. There is now a reasonable upper XC link, utitlising many of the uncovered old trails, the length of the network.
Planning for the 2015 volunteer work scope and trail dates is underway at the moment. A priority will be completing the lower side of the loop which needs much work.

Jindabyne Landscaping Announced as Contractor

Jindabyne Landscaping have been announced as the contractor to complete the professional scope of works at Majura Pines. This consists of 3 downhill trails, including Winery hill, and the skills area. They will commence work on 19th January 2015 and aim to be completed by April 2015.
Their announcement:
I’m super stoked to announce that Jindabyne Landscaping have won the contract to rebuild “Majura Pines,” with Craig Stonestreet and myself leading the design and building team. For those of you who know us Andy, Craig and myself have embarked on a trail building frenzy up here in the Mountains, building the Thredbo Valley Trail, Lake Crackenback, Bungarra network, Tyrolean network, Thredbo B-line, Mill Creek trail, Copper tom Trail, Bicentennial trail, Baw Baw DH and other skills parks and pump tracks. About 3 months ago we heard Majura Pines was being turned into a recreational area. Having lived in Canberra for over 32 years Majura was the birth place of my single trail MTB riding. I rode with a young guy called Jarod Rando and first bumped into a young kid, Dylan Cooper out on the trails at Majura. We will be moving to Canberra around January and weather permitting finish Majura Pines early April. I’m not going to say much more other than 3 months, 3 Downhill trails, numerous cross country trails, 2 excavators and a promise to build Majura back up to its place as one of the country’s leading MTB area’s….stay Tuned. I’m so dam excited! First walk through yesterday with Katherine, Sophie and Andrew from the ACT government and Craig and Andy. Paul Gardner

Continued Wet Weather
Another week, another wet forecast. Majura Pines has a huge catchment (Mt Majura) and it doesn’t drain well. Before you go for a ride take a minute to consider the trail conditions. Riding in the mud can be fun but can also cause damage to the trails.

Our group sizes are still restricted so you MUST email majurapinestrails@gmail.com to reserve one of the limited places. Meet at 0830 at the top end of Point Brake. We will provide the tools and refreshments will be from our sponsors Hackett IGA Plus Liquor and Capital Brewing Co.

- plenty of water
- hat and sunscreen
- food

We have been asked by ACT Parks and Conservation Services to remind riders that the construction and riding of mountain bike trails within Canberra Nature Parks, such as Mt Majura and Mt Ainslie Nature Reserves, is forbidden. You are permitted to ride formed roads (fire roads).
Canberra Nature Parks are rich ecosystems with many species of regional and national conservation significance and home to rare and threatened species.

Post Harvest Trail Day Wrap Up
A hugely successful trail build was held last Sunday.
05th September 2018

06th August 2018

The Steering Committee,Majura Pines Trail Alliance

You will need to ride in from one of the usual car parks. If you are really precious about your bike consider bringing a lock as we will be working high up on the hillside.
If you arrive late then follow the new trail uphill from our cars until you find us. If there any tools left by the cars, please pick one up and bring it with you.
Snacks and refreshments will be provided courtesy of Hackett IGA Plus Liquor as usual.

17th May 2017
Trail Spring Clean (in Autumn)
17th May 2017

- your favourite trail tools – rakes, mattocks, shovels, hoes, etc
03rd April 2017

Majura Pines Trail Alliance are working with ACT Parks and Conservation Services to get these trails clear.

Trail Clean up With the Berm
It’s the news that we have been waiting for! ACT Parks and Conservation Services have nearly finished cutting all the fallen trees and making the forest safe. This Wednesday (7th) Majura Pines Trail Alliance are combining with local riding group The Berm to have a clean up evening. Either meet at Hackett shops at 6.30pm to ride in to the forest, or come straight to the MPTA container for about 6.40pm. We will spend an hour or so clearing the trails and filling holes in before retiring to Wilburs at Hackett shops for a beer and bite to eat. If you are intending on coming for dinner please sign up to the Berm event below so that they can book a table. With enough numbers, the hope is to get Majura Pines open again at the weekend.

Majura Pines CLOSED
There is storm damage throughout the forest with most trails blocked and many hanging, dangerous trees. Majura Pines Trail Alliance are working with ACT Parks to clear the trees. Unfortunately some areas will have to be felled completely as they have become unsafe.
When the damage has been assessed, any hanging trees made safe and the ground started to dry out we will plan some volunteer days to start the clean up.

For detailed trail status information please see our Trail Status page here:

27th June 2016

These cars won’t be leaving until the end of session at around midday.

06th May 2016
Pinot Grinio OPEN
