  • Diversion on Wombat
For the next few weeks Tree Tops Adventures are expanding their operation. During this construction phase there will be a short diversion in place on the southern half of Wombat where the adjacent trail Radicle will be used instead. This is the easier part of Radicle and you are returned to Wombat before the big creek crossing. Our volunteers have raked in link trails, closed off the relevant sections and updated the signage as well as our online trail map and TrailForks. When out riding if you keep following the relevant Green or Blue arrows you won’t notice much difference. … Read more
  • End of Year Dig & BBQ – Tue 9 Dec
Join us for our last trail maintenance session of the year on Tuesday 9th December when we will be up at winery hill. Meet at 5.30pm, or as soon as you can get there, at the Sicnic Bench (top of Pinot Grinio). We’ll spend an hour or so tidying up the trails in that area before firing up the BBQ. Enjoy a sausage and beer from Capital Brewing Co. as we reflect on another year of success at Majura Pines.
  • Corporate Day Write Up
The 4th annual Corporate Trail Day was again a great success. We always seem to schedule this for the first warm day of the summer (next year we will really try and do it in September) but that didn’t stop 22 keyboard warriors flexing their muscles and getting on the tools for the day. We started on Beyond the Black Stump – first cut in 2 years ago by a similar crew. Drains were cleared, vegetation cut back, berms bulked out and the trail generally buffed up. The icing on the cake was extending the rock kicker near the bottom … Read more
  • 16th Oct – Corporate Volunteer Day
Many companies offer 1 or more paid volunteer days per year to support local community activities. On Thursday 16th October Majura Pines Trail Alliance will be running a special midweek trail build aimed at such employees. If your company doesn’t support a scheme like this, or if you aren’t sure if they do, speak to your boss or HR department and ask why not. Of course, if you are available that day for a different reason you are also more than welcome to join us. About Majura Pines Trail Alliance Majura Pines Trail Alliance is a registered ParkCare volunteer group … Read more
  • New Picnic Tables!
If you have been up to the Three Bears recently (and who hasn’t) you will have noticed a rather fine looking picnic table. As of yesterday there is also one in the centre of the pump track. These are the work of Majura Pines Trail Alliance volunteers Tony and Simon, using timber generously donated by Pinus Sawmills. I think you’ll agree they are good additions to our network and a great place to rest whilst your friends (or most likely children) do another lap. Thanks Tony, Simon and Pinus Sawmills!
  • New Jumps Trail Build – Sunday 10th August
Iconic trails have weaved their magic and our new jump trail – Happily Ever After – is taking shape. However, before any wheels roll over it, the track needs to dry out some more and we need to rock armour some of the low points to ensure that it stays fast and smooth for many years to come. Meet at the bottom of Bombora, very near to the winery gate, at 09:30 this Sunday 10th August. This is a slightly later start than usual. The plan is to work through until late morning and then we will fire up the … Read more
  • Jump Trail Volunteer Day Wrap Up
Predictably enough when we put the call out that we’re building a new jump trail every little pinner in north Canberra dragged their parents down to the pines to help out. Many hands, however small, make light work and soon grass, roots, tussocks, unwanted rocks, pine needles, tree stumps and branches were cleared out the way. It was tough going but end result is a corridor free or all organic matter for Iconic trails to turn in to flowing table tops. Additionally a return climbing link trail was added, an awesome rock drop uncovered, a creek crossing rock armoured – … Read more
  • New Jump Trail Build – Sunday 15th June
We are excited to announce the construction of a new beginner/intermediate jump trail extending Baby/Mama Bear all the way down to the winery gate. The heavy lifting will be done by Iconic trails but before they start there is a lot of volunteer work to clear the trail corridor of vegetation and add some link trails. Without this volunteer effort our limited budget simply won’t stretch far enough. If you like trails like this please come along on Sunday 15th June to lend a hand.
  • Pump Track Refurb Part 2
A couple of weeks ago a crew of legends from Trek Bicycle came out to lend a hand at Majura. Ably led by 5 volunteers from Majura Pines Trail Alliance and Ranger Marty from ACT Parks and Conservation Service we made short work of 4 cubic metres of gravel that was used to coat the inner loop of the pump track. After delicious Three Mills Bakery pastries were consumed we moved our attention to The Flash where this popular, and vitally important, beginner trail got a buff up. A few of the worst dead roots were cut out, drains cleaned, … Read more
  • Old Trail Gets a New Name (and a revamp)
We have updated the maps and signage on the old DH trail that we revamped recently. The new name for this trail is Amnesia – the trail we forgot (which is also close to Short Memory). It is a single Black Diamond technical descent similar, but a little easier, than the adjacent trails on the hill (Short Memory, Touching Cloth etc). It shares the same start as Short Memory before branching off to the left almost straight away. There are a couple of fun, fast rock gardens in the top third, some off camber sections and two jumps to finish. The … Read more
  • Gravity Trail Day – Sun 6th April
Come and join Majura Pines Trail Alliance for our first trail day of the Autumn on Sunday 6th April. We will be working on the old DH trail, giving it a tidy up, adding some new features and making it just as fun as neighboring trails like Touching Cloth and Short Memory. Meet at the bottom of the DH track (near the end of Touching Cloth and Rock Lobster) at 08:30. We will work until lunchtime. Everyone welcome – no experience necessary. All tools and instruction provided as well as our legendary morning tea from Maitland Street Roasters and Three … Read more
  • Winery Hill OPEN!
The maintenance work on Pinot Grinio and Bombora is complete and the trails are open to ride. The rain we’ve had over the last 10 days has really helped consolidate the work. Having said that, there is still all the usual caveats about taking it easy until you are familiar with changes and to not damage the soft dirt. Our thanks to ACT Parks and Conservation Service for facilitating this work with support from the Commonwealth Disaster Ready Fund, Pushys who have come onboard as sponsors of these trails and to Iconic trails who have done a great job and … Read more
